We're Only Alive for a Short Amount of Time, a new musical memoir from David Cale (co-written with Matthew Dean Marsh), will join the Public Theater's season this summer.

Debuting at the Anspacher Theatre under the direction of Robert Falls, We're Only Alive for a Short Amount of Time will begin previews June 13 before opening June 27. The show is scheduled to run through July 14.

In it, Cale reflects on a childhood spent escaping from his parents' unhappy marriage by singing and taking care of birds in the backyard. He will be accompanied by a six-piece orchestra.

Cale, who wrote the recent Billy Crudup solo show Harry Clarke, will star in the new musical about his life. 鈥淚鈥檓 deeply thrilled to bring my most personal, and I think, artistically ambitious show, We鈥檙e Only Alive for A Short Amount of Time, home to New York City,鈥 he said in a statement. 鈥淚t was my dream early on in the writing and composing of the show that it would live in the Anspacher at The Public Theater, where I鈥檝e had such spiritually stirring experiences, and the fact that is happening makes me profoundly happy.鈥
