The Brooklyn Academy of Music has announced its 2018 winter-spring season, a lineup that includes performances across music, theatre, and dance from January 15 to June 23. The theatre slate includes the Royal Shakespeare Company鈥檚 King Lear, the acclaimed Bristol Old Vic staging of Long Day鈥檚 Journey Into Night, and Russia鈥檚 Maly Drama Teatre production of Love and Intrigue.
Directed by Gregory Doran, RSC鈥檚 King Lear is set to play the BAM Harvey Theater beginning April 7. Antony Sher, who was praised for his performance in the title role in the U.K., will reprise his performance for the limited engagement. The U.S. premiere will run through April 29.
Beginning May 8, the Bristol Old Vic revival of Eugene O'Neill's Long Day鈥檚 Journey Into Night will take over the Harvey Theatre. Jeremy Irons and Lesley Manville will reprise their performances as James and Mary Tyrone. The Richard Eyre-helmed production received glowing reviews from U.K. critics, and will arrive in Brooklyn following a limited West End engagement at Wyndham鈥檚 Theatre. Long Day鈥檚 Journey Into Night will play BAM through May 27.
Rounding out the theatre lineup is the Maly Drama Teatre production of Friedrich Schiller's Love and Intrigue. The play tells the story of Ferdinand, the son of a high-ranking courtier who jeopardizes his fortuitous forthcoming marriage by falling in love with the daughter of a middle-class musician. Directed and adapted by Lev Dodin, the production is set to run June 6鈥�16.
