Gina Naomi Baez鈥檚 Abril will receive an invite-only industry presentation in New York City July 18. Jonathan Cerullo will direct the musical following a resilient Latinx woman reflecting on her life after surviving childhood cancer.
The presentation will feature Baez (Only Murders in the Building), Rodd Cyrus (Ragtime), Donna English (Nice Work if You Can Get It), Jaedynn Latter, Francisca Mu帽oz (The Gardens of Anuncia), Angel Reda (Chicago), Eliseo Rom谩n (In the Heights), and Analise Scarpaci (Matilda) with Howard Albert, Lauren Gobes, Kiana KaBeary, Julia Macchio, Mikey Marmann (Pretty Woman), and Belle the Dog.
Abril is a coming-of-age story about identity, survivorship, and the strength it takes to rise, as young Abril (who goes by April) returns to high school after surviving cancer only to face new battles, bullying, bureaucratic red tape, and a bond with a beloved drama teacher hiding a painful secret.
Abril will also feature music direction, orchestrations, and arrangements by Benjamin Doyle with Jacob Carll as the assistant music director/pianist, movement direction and choreography by Julia Macchio, dramaturgy by Emily Maltby, stage management by Kyle Conn, assistant stage management by Stephanie Rhodes, and general management by Sam Carrell. Mark Falconer serves as the production assistant, and Scarlett Thompson is the sensitivity specialist.
