Performances begin May 11 for the U.S. premiere of the Neil Armfield-directed production of David Hare鈥檚 The Judas Kiss featuring Rupert Everett as Oscar Wilde. The drama explores two key moments in Wilde's life: his imprisonment on charges of indecency, and later in Naples, when he is reunited with his partner and lover, Lord Alfred 鈥淏osie鈥 Douglas.

The cast also includes Alister Cameron (Sandy Moffat), Tom Colley (Galileo Masconi), Cal MacAninch (Robert Ross) and Charlie Rowe (Lord Alfred 鈥淏osie鈥 Douglas). Presented by Chichester Festival Theatre, this production premiered in 2012 at U.K.鈥檚 Hampstead Theatre and transferred to London鈥檚 West End in 2013, where it garnered critical acclaim.

The BAM engagement will officially open May 17. 鈥淭he play explores the power of all-consuming love and the cruelty of betrayal,鈥 state production notes. 鈥淲ith a quiet but burning sense of outrage, David Hare presents the consequences of taking an uncompromisingly moral position in a world defined by fear, expedience, and conformity.鈥

The production features set design by Dale Ferguson, lighting design by Rick Fisher, costume design by Sue Blane, sound design by Paul Groothuis and music by Alan John.

The play made its Broadway debut in 1998 starring Liam Neeson as Oscar Wilde.
