The 15th season of the hit series, which will begin in January 2016, will be its last.
Ryan Seacrest, who has been with the series since its inception, will again host. Judges will include Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr.
In addition to the singing of the various contestants, the final competition will also "reflect on the show鈥檚 run and some of its notable alumni."
Former "American Idol" contestants who have taken to Broadway after their stint on "Idol" include (The Color Purple, After Midnight), (Grease), (Spamalot), (Jekyll and Hyde, Rock of Ages), (Hairspray, Hair), (Rent) and (In the Heights) as well as former "Idol" judge (Chicago), among others.
