In-development musical The Bad News Bears is holding developmental readings at NYC's Open Jar Studios June 5 and 6. Adapted from the 1976 film, the work features a book by Brian Feinstein and Eric Garcia, and is being directed by Sherri Eden Barber.
The cast of the upcoming presentations will include Tony winner Bonnie Milligan as Karen Turner, Taran Killam as Morris Buttermaker, Ava Birglia as Amanda Wurlitzer, Ryann Redmond as Mika Engleberg, Kevin Pariseau as Jerry Cleveland, Bryan Fenkart as Jim McKeever, Fernell Hogan as Ahmad Rahim, Pablo Laurcerica as Miguel Aguilar, Julian lerner as Tanner Boyle, Yando Lopez as Rodrigo Aguilar, Daniel Marconi as Rudy Lancaster, Larry Saperstein as Alfred Ogilvie, Cole Tyler Thompson as Timmy Lupus, and Oscar Williams as Kelly Leak. The company will also include Alex Branton, Lindsay Nicole CHambers, Dwayne Clark, and Rheaume Crenshaw.
Barber's creative team includes music director Makulumy Alexander-Hills, production stage manager Charles M. Turner III, casting director Geoff Josselson, and general manager ShowTown Theatricals. Marissa McMahon of Kamala Theatricals is producing, with Nathan Gehan and Jamison Scott of ShowTown serving as executive producers.
The story follows a washed-up baseball player who takes a job coaching a ragtag team of Little League misfits, including his ex-stepdaughter, and winds up finding victory in many places. The 1976 film featured a screenplay by Bill Lancaster and starred Walter Matthau, Tatum O'Neal, and Vic Morrow. Michael Ritchie directed.
