Additional casting and programming has been revealed for the Williamstown Theatre Festival season, with performances by Susan Sarandon, Kate Walsh, and a world premiere play on ice.
The upcoming season is being led by Creative Collective Creative Director Jeremy O. Harris, part of a new leadership structure for the Festival, in collaboration with actor Kaia Gerber and her Library Science co-founder Alyssa Reeder, entrepreneur and producer Alex Stoclet, and dancer Christopher Rudd.
A play performed on ice will make its world premiere, with The Gig: After Moise and the World of Reason, conceived by director-choreographer Will Davis. Based on the novel by Tennessee Williams and performed by figure skaters, the cast will feature renowned skaters Danila Berdnik, Dan Donigan (a.k.a. Milk from RuPaul鈥檚 Drag Race Season 6 and All-Stars 3), Canadian elite skater Benjamin Guthrie, Isaac Lindy, and U.S. Nationals qualifier Rohene Ward. Douglas Webster, executive and artistic director of Ice Dance International, choreographer for Disney on Ice, Stars on Ice, and Holiday on Ice) is choreographing, with special choreography by U.S. ice dancing champions and two-time Olympic medalists Maia and Alex Shibutani.
The New Play Reading Series (formerly called Fridays@3) will bring playwrights, directors, and professional actors together for one week of rehearsals and an opportunity for audiences to get closer to the creative process. This year, the series will be presented in partnership with the Clark Art Institute, and will showcase White Girls Gang written by Rianna Simons and directed by Gus Heagerty, starring Kaia Gerber. It will be performed July 29 at 7:00 PM in the auditorium at the Clark Art Institute. Also being presented is Worms written by Gracie Gardner, directed by Dustin Wills, featuring Susan Sarandon and Kate Walsh. The Williamstown commission will be staged July 31 at 1:30 PM on The MainStage at '62 Center. Additional casting will be announced shortly.
