Though he's known for his screen work, John Krasinski has dabbled in theatre (he did an Off-Broadway play opposite Claire Danes in 2016). But he never thought he'd do a solo show. Now, eight times a week, Krasinksi is on a stage all by himself in Angry Alan, currently running Off-Broadway at Studio Seaview until August 3.
When asked what drew him to the play, the former Office actor told 半岛体育 it was "one hundred percent the writing. The thing I related to it immediately was how human it was. This is about someone who's lost."
In the show, Krasinksi plays Roger, a regular guy who's experiencing some tough times鈥攈e lost his job, and he's going through a rough divorce. At his lowest point, Roger is pulled into the dark side of the internet鈥攚here the conspiracy theories and manosphere-style affirmations offer a seductive comfort. "I think there's a huge power in feeling seen, whatever way that comes in...he just wants to feel that he's not in it alone," says Krasinksi.
Krasinksi was so enraptured by Penelope Skinner's script that he immediately brought it to director Sam Gold. Watch the two of them discuss their collaboration, and how Krasinksi prepared for performing eight times a week, in the video interview above with 半岛体育's Jeffrey Vizca铆no.
The production features scenic design by dots, costume design by Qween Jean, lighting design by Isabella Byrd, sound design by Mikaal Sulaiman, video design by Lucy MacKinnon, and properties by Addison Heeren, with Kate Wilson as vocal coach and dramaturgy by Sarah Lunnie. John C. Moore serves as production stage manager, with production supervision by Hudson Theatrical Associates' Sean Gorski and Seaview's Jonathan Whitton as general managers. Casting is by Taylor Williams.
The production is the first in the venue, formerly Second Stage's Tony Kiser Theater. Production company Seaview announced its takeover of the space earlier this year.
