Cult classic film The Rocky Horror Picture Show continues its 50th anniversary celebrations, with a new screening tour featuring some of the original stars is set to hit the road across North America later this year.
Film stars Barry Bostwick (Brad Majors), Nell Campbell (Columbia) and Patricia Quinn (Magenta), will visit more than 40 cities in the U.S. and Canada. Audiences in each city will have the opportunity to meet their star, participate in a costume contest, and interact with a live local shadow cast performance, who will be performing scenes from the movie 鈥榣ive鈥� on stage while the full un-edited film is shown behind them. In select cities, a traveling museum including artifacts and costumes from the film will also be on display.
Says Bostwick, 鈥�Rocky has changed lives, not just ours, and had a profound effect on how we accept our differences in this world. We were fitted for our corsets and high heels and enthusiastically started singing songs that have endured for all these years. And 'dammit Janet'! I have made nerds cool.鈥�
鈥�50 years ago I auditioned for the Rocky Horror show at the 60-seat Royal Court Theatre Upstairs in London," adds Quinn. "I asked my agent, 'What鈥檚 it about?' He replied, 'Something to do with a circus.' He wasn鈥檛 wrong. I鈥檝e been in this circus ever since! 鈥楥irque Du Rocky Horror鈥� I鈥檓 lucky! We鈥檙e all lucky!! Don鈥檛 dream it be it.鈥�
Finally, Campbell added that 鈥淚 never would have thought all these years later we鈥檇 be touring our little ole film. I鈥檓 so thrilled to get back on the road and to meet several generations of fans. Looking forward to a lot of fun just like it always was!鈥�
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the longest-running theatrical cinema release in the world. Starring Tim Curry as the devious and fabulous Frank-N-Furter; Bostwick and Susan Sarandon as everybody's favorite nerdy couple, Brad and Janet; Meatloaf as ex-delivery boy Eddie who dates the groupie Columbia (played by Campbell); and Quinn as Magenta, servant to Riff Raff (Richard O'Brien); the film blends mid-century horror film aesthetics, sci-fi fantasy, and a hefty dose of taboo-shattering self-expression to create a wholly unique experience.
