Tony Awards Anthony Ramos Didn't Say Yes to Performing in the Hamilton Tony Awards Performance Until the Day Before

The actor explains why he didn't get any solo time.

In Hamilton's special original cast reunion performance at the 2025 Tony Awards, many fans of the hit history-making musical were surprised to see the production's original John Laurens/Philip, Anthony Ramos, take to the stage.  It was previously reported that Ramos was unable to participate due to scheduling conflicts. But even Ramos did not fully know he would partake in the 10th-anniversary tribute to the Tony-winning musical, as he only said yes the day before.

Ramos shared in an interview with Watch What Happens Live's Andy Cohen that if he had said yes earlier, he would have been given a solo slot in the Hamilton medley that was performed at the Tony Awards. The medley was a mash-up of songs that featured solos from almost every principal character. "They weren't even planning on me being there, so they cut that part. They choreographed the whole number. And then I text [Lin-Manuel Miranda] Saturday morning like, 'yo, is it too late?'" Miranda replied to Ramos by asking if he had a black suit, to which Ramos replied: "Nah, I could get one!"

Ramos performed alongside the ensemble鈥攖hough considering the entire performance came together in just a few days, it was impressive that Miranda was able to get the entire gang back together. See Ramos' full interview on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in the video above.
