Breaking the Binary Theatre's production of Cecilia Gentili鈥檚 Red Ink will play the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer.
Playing Underbelly, Bristo Square from July 30-August 25, the production will star Chiquitita. Red Ink has partnered 半岛体育 for a four-part written series documenting the show's journey to Edinburgh Festival Fringe throughout the summer. The first entry, written by Breaking the Binary Theatre's Founding Artistic Director, George Strus, will be published in early July.
Ms. Gentili, who passed away in 2024, was a trans icon, artist, and activist whose solo shows encouraged fierce honesty in the face of bigoted pressure to stay silent. At the time of her passing, Mr. Gentili was scheduled to perform her own engagement of Red Ink, which explores her search for faith as a trans woman.
Chiquitita, most known for her work in the Brooklyn nightlife scene, will be making her theatrical stage debut in Red Ink. She will make her debut preview performance as part of this year鈥檚 NYC Pride Plays June 23. For more information on that performance, visit . The production will be produced by Breaking the Binary Theatre, Elliot Page & PAGEBOY Productions, Sara Ramirez, Queer Arts Coalition, and Nic Cory.
The 2024 Off-Broadway production of Red Ink at Rattlestick Theater raised over $35,000 for G.L.I.T.S, Destination Tomorrow, and Trans Power in Diversity and was awarded a Special Recognition at the 26th GLAAD Media Awards.
