Douglas Lyons and Ethan D. Pakchar's new musical Beau, begins its world premiere Off-Broadway June 6, and newly released production shots are giving us a first look at the new show.
Conceived and written by Lyons (Chicken and Biscuits), with music by Pakchar (Back to the Future: The Musical) and Lyons, Beau the Musical features eight actor-musicians telling the story of Ace Baker, a young queer man whose life is forever changed when he discovers his deceased grandfather is actually still alive.
The musical stars Matt Rodin (Company, All the World鈥檚 a Stage) as Ace, with Chris Blisset (Bloodsong of Love) as Beau, Amelia Cormack (Hadestown) as Raven, Andrea Goss (Cabaret) as Nurse/Karina/Le-Ann, Cory Jeacoma (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) as Ferris, Miyuki Miyagi (The Mystery of Edwin Drood) as Daphney, Derek J. Stoltenberg (The Prom) as Dennis, and Matt Wolpe (Finding Neverland) as Larry. Standbys Seth Eliser (The Jonathan Larson Project), Tyler Donovan McCall (Fiddler on the Roof), Pearl Rhein (Natasha, Pierre, and The Great Comet of 1812), and Lauren Jeanne Thomas (Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish) round out the company.
Presented by Out of the Box Theatrics in association with The StoryLine Project, performances are scheduled through July 27 at 154 Christopher Street (formerly known as the New Ohio Theatre). The production is produced by Bryan McCaffery and Leah Michalos.
The Off-Broadway production is directed and choreographed by Josh Rhodes (Rodgers + Hammerstein鈥檚 Cinderella, Spamalot) with Chris Gurr (Back to the Future: The Musical, The Prom) serving as music supervisor. The creative team also includes scenic designer Daniel Allen (Chicken & Biscuits), costume designer Devario D. Simmons (Thoughts of a Colored Man), lighting designer Adam Honor茅 (Purlie Victorious), sound designer Jordana Brenica (Suffs), and prop designer Sean Frank (Teeth).
Jonathan Bach (Wicked) is production stage manager, Rachael M. Wilkin (Waitress) is assistant stage manager, and Kimi Handa Brown (Guys and Dolls) is intimacy coordinator. Casting is by Robin Carus.
