Readings and Workshops Keenan Scott II's The Genius of Being Stupid to Receive Industry Reading

The play is an unflinching, deeply personal piece that explores Scott's youth as a special education student.

Keenan Scott II's new solo play, The Genius of Being Stupid, will receive a developmental industry reading later this month.

Presented by the York Theatre, the reading will be directed by Debra Walton. The invitation-only presentation will take place May 29 as a part of The York Theatre's Developmental Reading Series.

The play follows Scott as he navigates the streets of Queens, New York, and the suburban neighborhoods of Waldorf, Maryland, weaving together the humor, heartbreak, and triumph of his youth as a special education student.

The Genius of Being Stupid is the recipient of The Kennedy Center's 2025 David Mark Cohen Playwriting Award.
