The world premiere of Abby Rosebrock's Lowcountry officially opened at Off-Broadway's Atlantic Theater Company June 25. See what critics are saying about the new show, playing the company's Linda Gross Theater through July 13, below. Jo Bonney directs.
The production is part of the company's season that was initially canceled and later rescheduled following a breakdown in negotiations over contracts for backstage workers. That negotiation ended up seeing the backstage workers striking as part of their work to get their first union contract via IATSE, part of a growing Off-Broadway unionization trend.
Lowcountry stars Ted Lasso's Jodi Balfour as Tally, an under-employed actor who returns to her rural hometown and finds herself romantically linked to a high school teacher with a record. The cast also features Keith Kupferer as Paul and Babak Tafti as David. Casting is by The Telsey Office's Karyn Casl.
