"And you, and you, and you, you won a Tony!" So sang Cynthia Erivo at the end of the 2025 Tony Awards. But theatre fans might be keen to know that for that closing number, Erivo was seeing many of the lyrics on her teleprompter for the first time. While the opening number of the 2025 Tonys was pre-written, most of the closing number had to be written in the moment鈥攊n order to give shout-outs to the shows and people who won that night (and to Cole Escola thanking "T-Bone" from Grindr in their Tonys acceptance speech).

Watch the exclusive behind-the-scenes video below to learn how Tony-winning composers Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, Marc Shaiman, and Scott Wittman quickly crafted that closing number (with the moral support of Alex Edelman, who supplied the jokes for the evening). These new lyrics were sung to the tune of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" from the musical Dreamgirls.

And below, get a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of opening number for the 2025 Tony Awards鈥攚hich included Erivo singing with Broadway Inspirational Voices, and featured choreography from Tony winner Justin Peck. (You can read the lyrics to the opening number here.)
