Video Watch: Jonathan Groff Finally Reveals What Keeps His Mouth So... Moist

Currently starring as Bobby Darin in Broadway's Just in Time, the Tony winner has become famous (infamous?) for diction that sends his saliva flying.

Any good Broadway fan knows鈥攊f you sit near the front of a show starring Jonathan Groff, you're in the splash zone. The Tony-winning actor is famous, or infamous perhaps, for having very, shall we say, moist diction. And in a recent visit to The Kelly Clarkson Show to talk about starring in Broadway's Bobby Darin musical Just in Time, he shared the secret of what keeps his mouth so lubricated. Watch above to find out, but don't forget your umbrella.

The musical sees Groff starring as Darin and singing some of his greatest hits, including "Beyond the Sea," "Mack the Knife," and, ironically, "Splish Splash." Directed by Tony winner Alex Timbers, the immersive staging transforms Broadway's Circle in the Square Theatre into an intimate nightclub. The show opened April 26 after beginning previews March 31, and is nominated for six 2025 Tony Awards, including a nod for Groff for Best Leading Actor in a Musical.

The musical also features Erika Henningsen (Mean Girls), Tony winner Michele Pawk (Wicked), Joe Barbara (A Bronx Tale The Musical), Drama Desk nominee Emily Bergl (Good Night, Oscar), Gracie Lawrence (The Sex Lives of College Girls), Lance Roberts (The Music Man), Caesar Samayoa (Come From Away), Christine Cornish (Kiss Me, Kate), Julia Grondin (Funny Girl), Valeria Yamin (Moulin Rouge!), John Treacy Egan (My Fair Lady), Tari Kelly (Mr. Saturday Night), Matt Magnusson (A Wonderful World), Khori Michelle Petinaud (Lempicka), and Larkin Reilly (Bad Cinderella).

The work, developed by Timbers and based on an original concept by Ted Chapin, features a book by Tony winner Warren Leight and Isaac Oliver (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel). Shannon Lewis choreographs with music supervision and arrangements by Andrew Resnick.

The production also features scenic design by two-time Tony winner Derek McLane (Death Becomes Her), costume design by eight-time Tony winner Catherine Zuber (Moulin Rouge!), lighting design by Tony winner Justin Townsend (Here Lies Love), and sound design by Tony winner Peter Hylenski (Maybe Happy Ending).

Scott Rowen is the production stage manager, and Live Wire Theatrical is the general manager. Tom Kirdahy, Robert Ahrens, John Frost, and Groff are producing.

Groff won a Tony Award last year for his performance in the Tony-winning revival of Merrily We Roll Along, and has also appeared on Broadway in Spring Awakening and Hamilton.
