Chicago News Cast Set for Chicago Reading of They Call Me Katherine

Jessica Fisch will direct the new play by Laura Lapidus.

A staged reading of the new play They Call Me Katherine, by Fulbright Award winner Laura Lapidus, will be presented June 23 in Chicago at the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel.

Directed by Jessica Fischthe cast will feature Madeline Weinstein (Between the Temples), Lapidus (Bad Jews), and Yousof Sultani (Guards at the Taj).

The new play follows anti-marriage Kate, whose sister Bianca is heading down the aisle, while an eligible bachelor is suddenly stalking Kate at the grocery store. The play, according to press notes, asks, "How will the sisters from The Taming of the Shrew escape the narrative of their namesake play as it lovingly creeps into their perfectly modern lives?"

Lapidus is a Brooklyn-based actor and writer, whose theatre credits include Cry It Out (Northlight Theatre), Bad Jews at (George Street Playhouse, Studio Theatre DC, Theater Wit), Balm in Gilead (Griffin Theatre), and The Seagull (The Artistic Home). She has also appeared on screen in Chicago P.D., and most recently in Losing Lisa, a short film she co-wrote and starred in opposite Zo毛 Wanamaker.
