News Oprah Winfrey Nixes Broadway Revival of "Too Depressing" 'night, Mother Media mogul Oprah Winfrey has canceled plans to star in a Broadway revival of , saying Marsha Norman鈥檚 Tony- and Pulitzer-winning drama is 鈥渢oo depressing,鈥� according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter.

Winfrey was to have played the role of the mother who is trying--unsuccessfully as it turns out--to talk her grown daughter out of suicide. Winfrey told the magazine, 鈥淚 just didn鈥檛 want to be in the space of suicide every night for six months. I鈥檇 like something with a happier ending.鈥�

Winfrey, who gave up her popular TV talk show in 2011 to focus on publishing, producing and acting, co-produced one of this year鈥檚 Oscar nominees for Best Picture, 鈥淪elma.鈥�

The magazine reports that she is considering two other unnamed stage projects. In January it was reported that Winfrey was also considering appearing in a revival of 's , but those plans were trumped by the planned new musical based on the same play.
