Regional News Amber Heard, Brandon Flynn to Star in Jeremy O. Harris' Spirit of the People

The new play will premiere at Williamstown Theatre Festival.

More casting has been revealed for the upcoming world premiere of Jeremy O. Harris's Spirit of the People, set for the MainStage at Williamstown Theatre Festival July 17-August 1 with Katina Medina Mora at the helm. The new work from the playwright behind Slave Play aims to, according to press notes, "[confront] uncomfortable truths about land and what it means to destroy it."

A trio of screen actors have joined the play, including Amber Heard (Aquaman) in her return to acting, Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why), and L铆o Mehiel (Mutt). They joined a previously announced cast that includes Tonatiuh, Emma Ramos, Julian Sanchez, Christopher Geary, Amandla Jahava, Ato Blankson-Wood, and James Cusati-Moyer.

The summer season at the Massachusetts theatre is going to be a starry one, with performances from Pamela Anderson, William Jackson Harper and Chris Messina.

Dustin Wills' new production of Tennessee WilliamsCamino Real will run on the MainStage July 19-August 3 with a cast including Pamela Anderson, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Vin Knight, April Matthis, Whitney Peak, and Bruce McKenzie (replacing the previously announced Tony Danza). 

Will Davis' ice-dancing adaptation of Williams' The Gig: After Moise and the World of Reason, performs July 18-August 2 and features Danila Berdnik, Dan Donigan, Benjamin Guthrie, Isaac Lindy, and Rohene Ward.

Monica Bill Barnes and Robbie Saenz de Vieri's dance piece Many Happy Returns, will perform July 18-August 3 and features Monica Bill Barnes, Flannery Gregg, Chelsea Hecht, Indah Mariana, Mykel Marai Nairne, Christina Robson, and de Vierti. 

Robert O'Hara's revival of Williams' Not About Nightingales, performs July 17-August 3 and features Brian Geraghty, William Jackson Harper, Elizabeth Lail, and Chris Messina.

The final show will be Ahamefule J. Oluo's new solo musical The Things Around Us, performing July 17-August 1.
