Broadway's Oh, Mary! gets a (kind of) new star June 23 at the Lyceum Theatre as Tituss Burgess re-joins the company for an encore run in the title role. Burgess succeeds original star and writer Cole Escola, whose Tony-winning performance in the show ended June 21.
Burgess first played the title role in a limited engagement earlier this year while Escola was on hiatus. This time around, he is joined by original cast members Conrad Ricamora as Mary's Husband, Bianca Leigh as Mary's Chaperone, James Scully as Mary's Tutor, and Tony Macht as Mary's Husband's Assistant. That entire cast is with the production through August 2, with two-time RuPaul's Drag Race star Jinkx Monsoon set to succeed Burgess opposite a to-be-announced cast beginning August 4.
Along with Escola's Tony win for Best Leading Actor in a Play, director Sam Pinkleton earned the Best Director of a Play Tony at the June 8 ceremony.

Oh, Mary! centers on famous First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. In Escola's demented take (or as press notes put it, "through the lens of an idiot"), Mary Todd becomes a madcap, cabaret-obsessed alcoholic.
The piece premiered at Off-Broadway's Lucille Lortel Theatre in 2024 in a run that was extended three times. The production earned two 2024 Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Outstanding New American Play and Lead Performer in an Off-Broadway play, both for Escola. The show also won the 2024 Off Broadway Alliance Award for Best New Play.
