Audible, Inc. and Rachel Brosnahan鈥檚 Scrap Paper Pictures will present The Pansy Craze, a six-part series written and created by Hunter Bird and Mason Alexander Park, June 26鈥28 at Audible鈥檚 Minetta Lane Theatre.
Hosted by Mason Alexander Park, each episode of The Pansy Craze
will be recorded live and subsequently released as an Audible Original. Special guests for the variety show, as well as three additional performance dates, will be announced at a later time.
The Pansy Craze
is described as a "love letter to queer icons and those who celebrate them," transporting audiences through time and "spilling the hot tea your textbooks left out." Each performance will feature songs, sketches, and storytelling that dive into important moments in history when queerness was "celebrated, commodified, and then criminalized."
Performer-writer Park recently starred in back-to-back Jamie Lloyd productions in the West End: The Tempest as Ariel and Much Ado About Nothing as Margaret. They also played The Emcee in the West End revival of Cabaret. Mason can be seen on screen as Dr. Ian Wright in NBC's Quantum Leap sequel series, Gren in the Netflix live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop, Desire in The Sandman, and in Amazon's Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina.
Brooklyn-based director, writer, and theatrical creator Bird has spent over a decade developing plays, musicals, concert experiences, and more. Projects include Bronco Billy: The Musical, XY, and three plays with Manhattan Theatre Club as Lynne Meadow鈥檚 associate director. Bird's writing credits include She Reached for Heaven and The Golden Record.
The creative team also includes musical director David Dabbon, scenic designer Krit Robinson, lighting designer Stacey Derosier, and sound designer Cody Spencer.
Jhana毛 Bonnick-McDonnell is the production stage manager with theatrical supervision by Beacon Theatrical Services and general management by ShowTown Theatricals.
