Video Video: Watch Tony Nominee Cole Escola's Take on 'Iowa Stubborn' at Miscast 2025

MCC Theater's April 7 gala featured stars performing songs from roles in which they would likely not be cast.

Ever wonder how 2025 Tony nominee Cole Escola would interpret "Iowa Stubborn" from The Music Man?

The Oh, Mary! creator and star got their chance at MCC Theater's annual Miscast gala April 7, and the performance is everything and more than one might have expected. Check out Escola's riotous version of the Meredith Willson tune in the video above.

The event, featuring Broadway stars singing songs from roles in which they would traditionally not be cast, also included performances from Nicole Scherzinger (Sunset Blvd.), Raúl Esparza (Company), Jordan Fisher (Hadestown), Ana Gasteyer (Once Upon a Mattress), Megan Hilty (Death Becomes Her), Nick Jonas (The Last Five Years), Kecia Lewis (Hell's Kitchen), Adam Pascal (Rent), Steven Pasquale (The Bridges of Madison County), Helen J Shen (Maybe Happy Ending), Jennifer Simard (Death Becomes Her), Britton Smith (Be More Chill), Phillipa Soo (Hamilton), Ephraim Sykes (Our Town), Aaron Tveit (Moulin Rouge!), and Jordan Tyson (Gypsy).

The concert featured music direction by Will Van Dyke. Honored at this year's event were Sheryl Lee Ralph and MCC Youth Company alum and artist Travis Raeburn.

The Off-Broadway company marked the 25th anniversary of the event with an album, MCC Theater's Miscast: The Studio Sessions, which features 12 memorable performances from the concert's history. The album released March 28.
